Homeport's award-winning Book Bank program encourages hundreds of children to discover the joy of reading.

Every year volunteers help sort and distribute about 2,000 books, each hand-picked by a Homeport child. The program helps children retain knowledge during the off-school seasons.

How it works:

1. Homeport creates a booklist, which includes everything from classic authors Eric Carle, Jacqueline Woodson and Douglas Adams, to the newest graphic novels, science encyclopedias, and junior cookbooks.

2. Donors from the community buy books from the list (available on Amazon) and drop them off or have them shipped to Homeport's offices (3443 Agler Road, Suite 200, Columbus OH 43219) by December 4th.

3. Volunteers set up book fairs where kids receive their books in time for winter break.  Book Fairs in each apartment community feature storytime sessions, book-themed crafts, and tasty winter treats.
