believes it’s all
Homeport is the largest locally-focused nonprofit developer of affordable housing in Central Ohio,
having served the area for over 30 years. We own 2,387 affordable rental apartments and homes, and house over 5,700 people. Almost half of our residents are children.
Research shows a stable, safe, and affordable home
is the best indicator that a child will succeed in school,
will experience less risk of developmental
delays, and will not go to sleep hungry.
The Multiplying Impact of Housing
- A Center for Housing Policy study linked frequent resident mobility with behavioral problems in children, risk-taking behavior, extremely poor academic performance and disruption in access to health care in teens.
- Children in families behind on rent were 52% more likely to be at risk for developmental delays, compared to those in housing secure families.
- Children in families who had moved two or more times in the past year were 59% more likely to have been hospitalized, than were children in housing-secure families.
