Columbus Housing Partnership’s Homeport Community Life Program is proud to announce that it has been awarded Columbus State Community College’s Passage Award

Columbus Housing Partnership’s Homeport Community Life Program is proud to announce that it has been awarded Columbus State Community College’s Passage Award.

The award is given annually to non-profit organizations who demonstrate exceptional involvement in their community, supporting Columbus State’s vision of offering accessible, affordable, lifelong learning opportunities to meet the educational, employment, and enrichment needs of our community as it participates in the global economy.

Columbus Housing Partnership received the Passage Award for its involvement in English as a Second Language programs (ESL).

AmeriCorps members serving in Community Life Programs have partnered with Columbus State Community College to provide ESL education to Somali and Latino community children in grades second through eighth.

ESL education has been available for the past six years at Bending Brook, and with students’ successful outcome, implemented at Emerald Glen two years ago. Programming is offered everyday during the year to establish a strong language-base to help children gain a comprehensive understanding of the English language.
