Columbus: 2000s and Beyond

Kojo Kamau, a Columbus, Ohio native has exhibited his photographs throughout the Midwest and has collected numerous awards including the 2006 Ohioanna Library Career Award, the 2004 Columbus Winterfair Award of Excellence, the 2005 and 2000 Dublin, Ohio Arts Festival Jurors Choice Award and the 1999 Contemporary Works of Faith ’99 Jurors’ Award at the Schumacher Gallery in Bexley, Ohio. His photography retrospective sponsored by the Upper Arlington, Ohio Cultural Arts Commission, was chosen one of the Best Exhibitions of 1999 by the Columbus Dispatch Newspaper. In 1998 he received the Juror’s Merit Award at the Three Rivers Art Festival in Pittsburgh and the 1997 Outstanding Artist Award from the Columbus Public Schools and the Fort Hayes Shot Tower Gallery.
His photographs have traveled with the Columbus Museum of Art’s Elijah Pierce collection to the Studio Museum in Harlem, Museum of African American Life and Culture in Dallas, the Goldie Paley Gallery, Moore College of Art, Philadelphia; and the Museum of International Folk Art, Santa Fe, N.M., to name a few.
Kevin Willis, also a Columbus native, has studied and worked with black and white and color film for over 40 years. Since 2000, Kevin Willis has found inspiration in digital photography and media using Photoshop. He has created strong images of architectural structures, cityscapes and landscapes. His newer work also includes candid and posed portraiture. Kevin's work has shown in many local and national forums winning numerous awards.
