Homeport’s first Kustaafu Intergenerational arts program launched this month in our Elim communities, including Elim Estates, Elim Manor, and Elim Senior. This program is made possible through a close partnership with the African American Alzheimer’s and Wellness Association, who in addition to offering wellness classes and other educational tools, offers the Kustaafu Arts program. Many positive side effects are associated with this program and the arts in general – including, but not limited to, reduced medication use, reduced depression, increased mobility, and higher self-esteem. Students spent the beginning weeks learning and sketching African masks, and progressed to painting the masks and ultimately had them framed.
