Homeport receives NeighborWorks Green Organization designation

We’re proud to announce that Homeport has been recognized as a NeighborWorks® Green Organization!

We’re committed to a green, sustainable and healthy organization and community. It’s about now. And it’s about the future. As a designated NeighborWorks Green Organization, we infuse green principles throughout our operations, programs and services. NeighborWorks America provides this designation to Chartered Members that meet criteria designed to assess an organization’s use of best practices in creating and promoting healthy and sustainable homes and communities.

Homeport recognizes that it’s not only important to build green homes but that sharing green strategies with homebuyers and residents and further greening the organization translates to maximizing the financial, social, and environmental benefits to residents, communities, and employees.

Homeport received the NW Green Organization designation because we demonstrated that we have met Green Achievements in each of the following areas:

  • Operations
  • Homeownership Education and Counseling
  • New Construction
  • Multifamily Rehab
  • Asset and Property Management
  • Owner and Resident Awareness
  • Community Building and Organizing

Homeport joins a network of sustainable organizations that will lead the affordable housing and community development industry to a more sustainable future.

Background:

NeighborWorks America, which Homeport is an exemplary network member, established a framework for nonprofit housing organizations to comprehensively incorporate green business practices across their organizations’ operations and all of their services.  The NeighborWorks Green Organization program is about prompting financial security, creating healthier living and working environments, conserving resources, and building towards a more sustainable future—both for residents and for our organization.  NeighborWork’s goal is, by 2016, to have two-thirds of its over 235 network members achieve the NW Green Organization Designation.
