This winter, Homeport's Bright Ideas Book Bank brought great books, craft activities, and holiday treats to over 400 happy children. The Book Bank was a huge success due to overwhelming support from volunteers, individuals, and corporate donors, and will be held again in May, so children have access to books over summer vacation.
In Winter 2013, Junior Library Guild announced a partnership that will provide the Bright Ideas Book Bank with 200 of the very best new books in children's and young adult literature. JLG, located in Plain City, is a private company that reviews manuscripts hot off the press, develops collections of books based on their expert reviews and the market demands, and then supplies those books to public and school libraries.
What does this new partnership mean? Homeport had picked some great books for the Bright Ideas Book List, but we're not the experts. Now we can leave that to Junior Library Guild! In May 2014 and beyond, each Bright Ideas Book List will have at least 10 titles chosen by Junior Library Guild, who have proven so successful in picking books that go on to receive mulitple awards . And we’ll have a base of 200 books already supplied by Junior Library Guild, to which we will add donations from other individuals and companies. Homeport’s Bright Ideas Book Bank ensures brand new, top quality books are provided for each child because everyone should get the experience of cracking open the front cover of an unmarked book. An ongoing partnership with JLG will make that experience possible in Homeport’s communities.
