 AmeriCorps VISTA Associate needed to serve in the King-Lincoln District of Columbus, OH

Homeport is seeking a year-long AmeriCorps VISTA member to assist the Home Ownership department with identifying development opportunities in the King-Lincoln District. The VISTA will also serve the community by engaging with residents and creating economic development opportunities. Whether you’re an Entrepreneur, Business Major, aspiring City Planner, or interested in Sociology or Public Affairs, you’ll have the opportunity to develop innovative programs that make a lasting impact in the community.

 Member Duties: Homeport Home Ownership seeks an exceptional VISTA to join its hardworking team. We are looking for applicants interested in economic development, neighborhood revitalization, GIS, and community development. The VISTA will work with staff to:

  • Collect and analyze neighborhood, census, and property conditions data
  • Create a neighborhood opportunity map
  • Support the North of Broad Residents Association
  • Identify economic development grant opportunities
  • Assist local business associations with neighborhood branding efforts

What is AmeriCorps VISTA?: AmeriCorps is a part of the Corporation for National and Community Service, an independent federal agency created to connect Americans of all ages and backgrounds with opportunities to give back to their communities and their nation.

AmeriCorps VISTA members are passionate and committed to their mission to bring individuals and communities out of poverty.  Members make a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. They focus their efforts to build the organizational, administrative, and financial capacity of organizations that fight illiteracy, improve health services, foster economic development, and otherwise assist low-income communities. Members receive a modest living allowance, and after a successful completion of a term of service, members can choose to receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award or a post-service stipend.

Terms: Prohibits paid work outside of the sponsoring agency at any time.
