In June we had a community conversation with some of our Elim Manor residents focused on preventative bed bug education. The evening began by the residents of Elim Manor preparing a meal for everyone, followed by a conversation with residents and Homeport staff members. Those who attended heard a presentation about ways to prevent getting bed bugs and how to treat and prevent spreading of bed bugs. Some practical things that were learned:
- Inform your property manager right away if you think you have bed bugs. They spread very quickly!
- Do not bring used household items into your home unless it is really necessary and not unless you have thoroughly checked them for signs of bed bugs. Pay close attention to clothing, electronics, furniture and anything bought at garage sales, flea markets, or thrift stores.
- NEVER take anything out of someone’s trash container or the alley! It is very likely to be bed bug infested!
