Title: Information Technology Manager
Responsibilities: Managing Homeport’s technology. I manage the computer servers and network, the phones, workstation equipment, operational software, and security. My goal is to help the team at Homeport use the best technology to help people.
What do you like most about the organization?
Building families and investing in children, Homeport is making a strong difference in our community. Having a great place to live can really help set a foundation for a better future. And the team that I get to work with is great. They really care about the people we work with in the community and are advocates in their respective fields.
What have you done in your career that you are most proud of, or that people may not be aware of?
I am grateful for the opportunity to freely use my passion for technology. I have been given freedom to design systems for our company so that the IT department is more efficient, reliable, and responsive. We’ve worked very hard to be careful how we spend money as a department so that Homeport is spending money where it should be spent -- on helping people.
We’ve optimized our network security to make it quickly adaptable to stop the latest threats and push out updates much more rapidly than had been previously possible. We’ve locked down vulnerabilities on workstations and block malicious emails and websites. Currently, we’re working on a project to implement an additional layer of security to our firewall.
We put a lot of effort in to make sure we have reliable and responsive systems that are working, so that our staff doesn’t have to focus on IT issues, but can get to the good work of helping people. It is quite challenging sometimes, because you never know what is going to come up. Some days I don’t get to start the work I had planned because something comes up that needs a rapid response such as when the phone lines were having sporadic dropped calls and required my full attention. What people may not know about me is that I’m actually the lead pastor of a church in the central Hilltop neighborhood when I’m not managing IT for Homeport. It’s my passion to help people find the joy and freedom of knowing God. Getting to work with Homeport and as a pastor is incredibly fulfilling.
Favorite things you do outside of work?
Outside of using my gifts and abilities along with others, I also like to spend time with my wife and my two year old daughter and my 4 month old son. Our life feels like one big adventure together, even when it’s just eating a chocolate bar in the backyard on a sunny day.
