Columbus-Based Company Keeps Affordable Housing Mission On Track
For the sixth year in a row, Nationwide Foundation has contributed at least $35,000 to help Homeport in its mission of providing homes where people can live within their means and raise families with stability.
“We are fortunate to have Nationwide supporting our efforts in breaking the cycle of poverty, redefining futures and turning hopes and dreams into a reality,” said Homeport President and CEO Amy Klaben.
“Over 5,300 people live in our homes today,” Klaben said. “We have developed collaborations and partner relationships that allow our residents to benefit from after-school programs, mental health screenings, produce and food pantry distributions, a furniture bank, and more.
“But managing the programs requires community support as well,” Klaben added. “Thankfully, as the commercial goes, Nationwide, through its foundation, is on our side – and those we serve.”
With the latest gift, Columbus-based Nationwide has provided almost $275,000 to Homeport since 1997.
The Nationwide Foundation’s mission is “to improve the quality of life in communities in which a large number of Nationwide members, associates, agents and their families live and work.”
Through Nationwide’s Community Impact Model, the Foundation assesses needs and awards grants for emergency and basic needs, crisis stabilization, personal and family empowerment and community enrichment. Since 2000, the Nationwide Foundation has committed more than $345 million nationally to qualified nonprofits like Homeport.
