Sabrina Waytes

Title: Asset Manager

Responsibilities:  I am responsible for overseeing a portfolio of 405 single family homes and 7 affordable multifamily housing developments that are being managed by Community Properties of Ohio (CPO).  As an Asset Manager, I analyze the financial and operational performance of our properties to make sure they are carrying out the mission of the organization which is to provide quality affordable housing for our residents.  What that means is I make sure the properties are making money and that they are being maintained properly.  I also work closely with the Property Managers to create plans to achieve goals that are specific to each property.  For example, right now we are in the process of completing a number of improvements at Marsh Run Apartments including painting the exteriors, updating the signage, installing security cameras and lighting.  All of this was made possible because we were able to refinance the property with a Program Related Investment from The Columbus Foundation.

What do I like most about the organization?

What I like most about Homeport is that I get to work with very bright, professional people who are as focused and dedicated to Homeport’s mission as I am.  Every department here has a different function but all of us work together to contribute to the organization.

What have you done in your career you are most proud of, or that people may not be aware of?

Prior to coming to Homeport I was the Executive Director of a nonprofit community development organization that builds affordable housing throughout Lake County in Northeast Ohio.  Because we had such a small staff, I was involved in all aspects of the business from overseeing home renovations and construction to selling and leasing homes.  One day, I was talking to my daughter about my job and she said to me, “Mom, you’re a builder.”  Prior to that, I had never thought about my job in that way, but being a builder had always been one of my career aspirations.  Until that moment, I hadn’t realized that I had achieved one of my goals.

Favorite things I do outside of work?

I love spending time with my children and with my dog Winnie who is a dachshund/beagle mix, that we recently adopted.  I also like to travel to different states and I hope to travel internationally soon.  I love watching movies, whether they are new releases or classics.  Two of my favorites are Jumping the Broom and the remake of Sabrina with Harrison Ford.

Personal Heroes?

Two of my personal heroes are Oprah Winfrey and Michelle Obama.  They are two smart, articulate women who use their power and influence to make a difference in the lives of others.

What do I like about Central Ohio?

I moved to Columbus about two and a half years ago.  What attracted me is how progressive the region has become.  There are a lot of job opportunities, a diverse population and plenty of great shops and restaurants.  The region is also very economical and it’s easy to get around because the traffic here isn’t as bad as other larger cities.
