Homeport Happenings -- April Edition

Hamilton Crossing

The opening of Homeport's $11.4 million, 64-apartment “Hamilton Crossing” community for seniors remains on target for October. Ruscilli Construction has been working through cold, rain, snow and occasional sunshine to make it happen. Watch a three-minute condensed video of the construction since this past September at South Hamilton and Etna roads in Whitehall. Closing Time

Odell Davis, second from left, became the first Greater Linden Homes resident to close on a lease-option home from Homeport. Greater Linden Homes has 39 homes. Three more residents of the scattered site community are in contract to purchase.

Joining Davis at the closing on March 28 were, far left, Homeport Lease Option Program Manager Brenda Moncrief. Second from right is Gail Blizzard, Park National Bank, the lender. Far right is Realtor Melle Eldridge of Coldwell Banker/King Thompson. Davis has lived in his Leona Avenue home for nine years. He is a first-time homebuyer.

Homeport has 488 homes in its lease option portfolio. Lease option program homes must be 15 years old before becoming eligible for purchase. Prior to purchase, Homeport replaces the roof, furnace and water heater to minimize large capital repairs the new homebuyer will experience in the first five years of ownership. The price of the home is also reduced $1,000 for every year the resident has lived in the home.

Banking On Volunteers

Bank of America employees on March 24 provided the final touches of rehab for a home Chase donated to Homeport in Whitehall. The volunteers provided fresh coats of paint to the walls of all three bedrooms and shelving in the bathroom.

Before the six B of A volunteers showed up at 384 Wolfe Avenue, Homeport had invested in asbestos abatement and other upgrades including  furnace/AC/water heater, duct cleaning,  electrical box, gutter, soffit, interior waterlines, gas lines, a laundry room, appliances, attic insulation, flooring, countertops and bathroom upgrades.
