Residents Seeking Employment To Benefit From New Relationship
Enter “Dress for Success” on North High Street and you will see tables covered with jewelry, baskets of stylish and colorful scarves, a wall of handbags and rows of dresses, pants, skirts, and blouses.
But while the store resembles other Short North boutiques, it serves a special social mission – enabling individuals to wear "gently used" professional clothing at job interviews. In late 2017, Dress for Success became another important resource partner of Homeport and its residents.
“Dress for Success provides professional and business attire to women who need an outfit for an interview,” said Homeport Service Coordinator Maggie Wilson. “Once the client has landed a job she can return and get five additional workplace outfits, including bags, shoes, and jewelry.”
Residents of Homeport are eligible to tap into this community resource with an on-line referral made by Homeport. Once in, residents can use other Dress for Success services.
“Dress for Success operates a Career Center where women can search for jobs, work on their resume, and participate in work-readiness programs,” Wilson said. “Clients are also eligible to apply for membership in the Women’s Professional Group and Women2Women, a mentoring program which connects employed women with professional role models.”
Recently, Dress for Success has also started carrying scrubs and casual clothes like jeans due to the increase in state tested nursing assistant and warehouse jobs becoming available in the Central Ohio area.
The new relationship with Dress for Success is part of Homeport's strategic goal of being laser focused on the stability and success of the 5,700 residents living in Homeport communities.
